State Auditor Shad White’s office participated in a joint investigation which led to the arrest and prosecution of George Nangah, former town clerk of Coldwater in Tate County. Details about the case can be found in a press release issued by the United States Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Mississippi.
“I’m grateful that we have already been able to collect $50,000 of the over $200,000 that Mr. Nangah stole. He is also here in our country illegally, and the proper authorities have been made aware,” said State Auditor Shad White.
In addition to federal crimes, Nangah still faces a sentencing hearing after entering a guilty plea for state crimes in November 2019.
Shad White was appointed the 42nd State Auditor of Mississippi by Governor Phil Bryant in 2018 and elected to a full term in 2019. The son of an oilfield pumper and school teacher, White grew up in rural Jones County and went on to earn degrees from Ole Miss, the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and Harvard Law School. He also holds a certificate in forensic accounting (the use of accounting to detect fraud) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Since 2018, White’s office has demanded over $4.5 million back for the taxpayers and made multiple notable arrests around the state. Today he, his wife Rina, and their daughter live in Rankin County and attend St. Richard Church.
