Hurst says whole truth not told after NPR edits audio from interview on ICE raids

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi Mike Hurst was part of a group of individuals interviewed by NPR (National Public Radio) following the August ICE raids in rural Mississippi resulting in the arrest of hundreds of illegal undocumented migrant workers.

The day the interviews were published, Hurst took to social media calling out the publication for misquoting him in the story.

In the audio recording published by NPR, it cuts out several of the words of Hurst at the 2:50 mark. He said this editing distorts the context of what he actually said.

“It’s shocking to see some in the media literally manipulate and delete your own words in order to further the media’s predetermined narrative. Despite their efforts, we in the U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to simply do justice, fight for victims, and protect the public,” said Hurst.

Seven ICE raids took place on August 7, 2019 by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.  Roughly 680 people were arrested on during seven food processing plant raids in Mississippi. No charges have been brought against the four companies or their officials, but authorities have indicated that is likely.
