Nutt’s Neyland record as a head coach is 0-4, but even that doesn’t begin to tell the painful tale. His first game as a head coach there was in 1998, and his 8-0 Arkansas team was leading in the fourth quarter when quarterback Clint Stoerner tripped and fumbled, giving the Vols life. Tennessee won (and went on to win the national championship). Nutt paced down the sideline after the fumble, hands on hips, disgusted.
Twelve years later, even as he’s wearing a different color coaching shirt, he grimaced when it was brought up.
