College football’s running debate

THE SPREAD OFFENSE featuring zone-blocking schemes is the rage in college football. As more programs adopt the read-option part of the spread, quarterbacks are being asked to carry the football more.
With the quarterback having that option comes a predicament for college coaches: When does a coach ask his quarterback to bull his way for more yardage, and when does he demand his quarterback get to the ground and avoid contact with defenders?
