UM received 48 votes, placing it as the fifth team out of the top 25. Mississippi State received one vote.

The poll was dotted with the schools’ brethren in the Southeastern Conference, most notably No. 1 Alabama. Other ranked SEC schools: No. 3 Florida, No. 16 LSU, No. 19 Arkansas, No. 21 Georgia and No. 23 Auburn.
