SEC would tone down Longhorns’ arrogance

Heber Springs, Ark. — There’s no doubt about it. As much as this reporter bleeds Arkansas red, I must admit the hated Texas Longhorns have an outstanding football program. However, they are by no means dominant. Their fans and leaders in general are so annoyingly arrogant they don’t seem to realize all of the other programs that are better.
Florida (twice), LSU and Alabama of the Southeastern Conference have all won national championships since the Longhorns won one in 2005, the program’s first since 1970, when they won a controversial title over Nebraska. That season, the ‘Huskers were 11-0-1 and beat LSU 17-12 in the Orange Bowl while Texas lost to Notre Dame 24-11 in the Cotton Bowl. In other words, Texas earned that title about like Alabama earned the one over Arkansas in 1964.
