Heisman-winning son fills imprisoned father with pride
JAMAICA, N.Y. — When Alabama running back Mark Ingram won the Heisman Trophy nearly two weeks ago, he delivered one of the most heartfelt acceptance speeches in the award’s 75-year history.
Ingram wiped tears from his eyes several times as he thanked his family, including his father, Mark Ingram Sr. “I love him to death,” Ingram said.
His father never had seen him cry. “Other than a few spankings as a child,” Ingram Sr. said Wednesday in a prison meeting room, where he sat for his first published interview since his son won the award.
