LSU sophomore right hander Austin Ross was named the Southeastern Conference pitcher of the week Monday, marking the second time he has won the honor this year and the third consecutive week in which a Tigers pitcher has been cited.
Ross (4-2) held Ole Miss to one run on two hits in eight innings Sunday in the rubber match of a 3-game series between the schools. Only one Ole Miss baserunner got to second base against Ross. In the process, he beat Rebels All-American Scott Bittle, who allowed only one single in seven innings.
Ross improved his ERA to 2.48 in 36.1 innings. He has recorded three walks and 33 strikeouts, and opponents are hitting just .200 against him. On March 2 Ross was also named SEC pitcher of the week after working six shutout innings with no walks and 10 strikeouts against Central Florida.
