Auburn’s new coach sparks wide reaction
If name recognition with high school senior prospects is important, Gene Chizik will be starting at a disadvantage when he officially becomes Auburn’s next head football coach.
But Chizik does have the advantage of already having the respect of some of Alabama’s most influential high school coaches, many of whom learned of his impending hiring while attending the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic Saturday afternoon at Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
“Gene Chizik is an excellent coach and an excellent man,” said Hoover High coach Josh Niblett, who led the Bucs to the Class 6A state championship game last week in his first season with the program. “He brings a lot of high energy to the game. He’s a good leader and a good man.”
