Perception in college football is given a dose of reality
Perceptions could change dramatically today.
They already began changing with Oregon State’s 27-21 upset of No.1 Southern Cal on Thursday night, but today’s slate of games could do even more to alter how some teams — and conferences — are viewed.
For Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, another strong outing against No. 24 TCU (4-0) would only enhance his chances as a Heisman Trophy contender. The game itself will tell a lot about the Horned Frogs and No. 2 Sooners (3-0), who have a chance to move to No. 1.
David Fox of Rivals.com described it perfectly, writing that “this will either be a muscle-flexing game for Oklahoma heading into the Big 12 schedule or another statement game for TCU and the Mountain West.”
“The only thing we have control over is TCU,” Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson said. “That’s how we won the game in 2005. We didn’t know what kind of football team we had. We just went out and played with heart.”
Third-ranked Georgia hosts No. 8 Alabama in another marquee Southeastern Conference matchup. The Crimson Tide has improved dramatically under second-year coach Nick Saban, and while a win would solidify them as an SEC contender, there’s plenty of incentive as well for the Bulldogs.
