Auburn notebook: Tigers RBs focus on fumbling

Tigers RBs aim to erase fumbling problems
AUBURN – Three Auburn running backs lost fumbles during last week’s win over Southern Mississippi.

Assistant coach Eddie Gran is trying to make sure the mistakes aren’t repeated.
“The frustrating part was the lack of discipline,” Gran said. “That comes down to the coach. That’s my fault. You have to make sure that doesn’t happen. They’ve had a real good week of practice and I don’t expect that to be a problem.”

Ben Tate, Brad Lester and Eric Smith all fumbled once last Saturday. Tate and Lester fumbled on back-to-back first-quarter drives to kill scoring threats.
So what did Gran do to correct the problem?
“We just knocked the dog pee out of each other and made sure that they had the ball in the right technique,” Gran said. “There are a few drills where you can make sure that when they make a cut, the ball is not separated from their body.
“It’s just a matter of getting back to fundamentals. It was really just a lack of fundamentals and focus three separate times during the game.”
