No. 10 retired at USM, Reggie Collier

Possibly the greatest Southern Miss football player will finally get the recognition that every athlete dreams about and what many fans thought he deserved.
The university announced Thursday that quarterback legend Reggie Collier will have his No. 10 jersey retired on Oct. 11 during the Boise State game at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
“It’s the ultimate honor to have your jersey retired. There’s no doubt about it,” said Collier, who lettered at USM from 1979-1982. “I’m excited about it. I’m in pretty elite company with Ray Guy and Brett (Favre).”
The 6-foot-3 Collier was a true dual threat quarterback with long legs, break-away speed and a strong arm. Players like Steve McNair, Steve Young and Michael Vick made that brand of quarterback popular in the NFL in the 1990’s.
