At last, Ole Miss’ Powe cleared to play
Big news for Ole Miss on Monday. Defensive tackle Jerrell Powe, who first signed with the Rebels in 2005, was ruled eligible to practice and play this season.
His attorney tells ESPN.com that it’s been a long time coming for one of the top prospects in the country in 2005. All eyes will be on the 340-pound Powe when practice begins on Aug. 4 for the Rebels. He hasn’t played in a game since the 2005 season when he was at Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy.
But, hey, if Powe is in shape and hasn’t lost too much during his lengthy layoff, you might want to slide the Rebels right up near the top of the conference when it comes to the defensive line. Greg Hardy is one of the best pass-rushers in the league, and Peria Jerry is a pretty fair interior lineman in his own right after recording 10.5 tackles for loss last season.
