Mississippi lawmakers vague on ’17 tax proposals
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi lawmakers passed a substantial tax-cut package in 2016, with reductions phasing in over several years.
Leaders are vague about whether they will propose other tax changes during the 2017 legislative session that begins Jan. 3.
Nicole Kaeding, an economist with the Washington-based Tax Foundation, says Mississippi could generate revenue by eliminating tax exemptions on prescription drugs or on services such as dog grooming.
