Casino industry reaches out to Trump
Mississippi has joined five other states in filing a brief before the Supreme Court that could bring sports betting to our state. Right now, federal law allows sports betting only in Nevada. In the past, Donald Trump supported the expansion of legal sports betting and the gaming association hopes a Trump administration weighs in on the issue.
“President-elect Trump has expressed his views on sports betting and appears to agree that current law has failed. We are optimistic that states will soon have the opportunity to choose if they wish to regulate sports betting in the same way they have chosen to regulate other gaming products,” said Freeman.
According to the AGA, the federal ban on sports betting drives an illegal underground market of at least $150 billion annually. Coast casinos and other gaming jurisdictions will be keeping a close eye on the Supreme Court. Justices could decide whether or not to hear the case expanding sports betting sometime in 2017.
