Debate, disagreement highlights CMR meeting
Discussions and disagreements about regulating oyster season and the shrimp industry highlighted Tuesday’s meeting of the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources.
Despite the staff’s recommendation that oyster season be shut down, commissioners voted to approve a five-day dredging season before Christmas, beginning Dec. 15. This excludes the area around St. Joe Reef….
…The staff’s recommendation that the CMR form a shrimp task force was also rejected. Chairman Richard Gollott spoke against the idea, saying it was simply “another bureaucracy.”
