PASSED: Congressman Harper’s Bill Delivers for America’s Veterans

By: Sarah Ulmer - June 28, 2018

U.S. Congressman Gregg Harper (MS-03), Chairman of the Committee on House Administration and the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6160, which amends the Wounded Warrior Medical Leave Act:

“This morning, the House passed my bill, which amends the Wounded Warrior Federal Leave Act. This bipartisan legislation encourages veterans with a 30% disability to apply for a job in the federal service with a promise that they will receive “wounded warrior leave” on day one. This allows our nations veterans to maintain meaningful work in the legislative branch while allowing them to go to their medical appointments without fear of losing pay or having to skip doctors appointments.

Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, who introduced an identical bill in the U.S. Senate, is leading the charge on this issue in the Senate. I am proud that we are working together to help our brave veterans not only in our home state of Mississippi, but across the United States.”
