Officials to dedicate segment of highway to late legislator

A segment of Mississippi Highway 63 in Greene County will be dedicated April 17 to state Sen. George Cecil McLeod Jr., D-Leakesville, who died in 2011.

Southern District Transportation Commissioner Tom King says dedication of the “Senator George Cecil McLeod Jr. Memorial Highway” will be at 2 p.m. at the Leakesville Presbyterian Church.

The segment to be dedication is on Highway 63 between George and Greene counties and extending north to the overpass at Mississippi Highway 163.

McLeod was elected to an unexpired Senate seat in 1970 and went on to serve for eight more years.
