NICHOLSON ANNOUNCES RUN FOR ALDERMAN-AT-LARGE IN BRANDON.
Will ADDRESS CITY DEBT, TRANSPARENCY.
BRANDON, MS. March 12, 2013–Roy Nicholson announced today that he has qualified to seek the office of Alderman-At-Large for the City of Brandon. Nicholson is a 12 year resident of the city and lives in the Crossgates area. He has served on the Board of Directors for Pro-Life Mississippi and the Central Mississippi TEA Party. He is also the Founding Chairman of the Mississippi TEA Party, and a precinct delegate to the Rankin County GOP.
Nicholson says his experience with the government watchdog group has led him to take a closer look at the local situation in Brandon.
“I never intended to run for office,” Nicholson said. “But, the more involved I have become, the more I have come to realize what fiscally dire circumstances exist right here in our City of Brandon. We are in debt, deep debt for a city of our size. Growth is occurring and we are not positioned well to absorb that growth and maintain basic government services. We must get a handle on this now to ensure a bright future for all of our families.”
Nicholson has met with several groups in the City of Brandon, from the Chamber of Commerce to the current elected officials, to discuss the cities debt situation and it’s affect on maintaining a business friendly atmosphere. He says he will continue to meet with groups across the city to help engage citizens in solving the problems that exist.
“Government must do what government is intended to do. It must do so within the means provided by the taxpayers, and with an eye towards providing the most efficient and responsible return on that investment,” said Nicholson. “The City of Brandon can be a model for the rest of the state in how we engage citizens. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Models of how to do this with the public and provide transparent government already exist. We just need to care enough to make it happen. I do. And I believe the citizens of Brandon do, too.”
Nicholson looks forward to a spirited revitalization of the City of Brandon beginning with his campaign.
“Over the next two months leading up to May 7th and beyond into our future together, I promise the citizens of Brandon that no one will outwork me. I will not shy away from tough conversations that need to be held openly and honestly. We will talk bluntly about the debt burden that faces each of us. Together, we will map out a strategy that reduces that burden and builds Brandon into a model city for the state and nation.”
