Analysis: Gov. Bryant’s State Of The State Address

Now more than a year into office, Gov. Phil Bryant’s second State of the State address is probably more indicative of his leadership and priorities than his first address. Clearly, those priorities center on job growth, education and health care.

After two terms of Haley Barbour as the state’s chief executive officer, some wondered if Bryant could measure up in terms of economic development. This is despite the fact that the state lost jobs under Barbour, mainly due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina and the national recession.

Bryant certainly didn’t shy away from any comparisons. He rattled of business after business that either moved to or expanded their operations in Mississippi over the past year, staking claim to helping in the creation of more than 2,700 jobs.
