Mississippi lawmakers get wish list from DeSoto officials
DeSoto’s state legislative delegation has homework ahead of the Jan. 8 opening of the spring session in Jackson, absorbing local priorities for 2013 ranging from tough sells like sheriff’s radar and “true valuation” of affordable rental property to slam dunks such as a scenic byway plan.
Larry Jarrett, DeSoto Greenways and Parks director, urged lawmakers to seek official state designation of the Delta Bluff Scenic Byway, aimed at preserving history and resources while promoting tourism. The byway in west DeSoto would include a loop connecting Miss. 301 and Old Highway 161, already designated as a National Scenic Byway, with Miss. 304 and Miss. 301 via Green River Road. The loop connects from Austin Road and Delta View Road on the north end to form the loop.
