Sun Herald wraps up last week’s Legislative session

We’ll know more after the new (64-58 majority) GOP leadership in the war-torn House names committee chairs, expected by the end of this week. But for the Senate, where new Republican Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves named his leadership team Friday, there appears to be some effort at unity.

Reeves gave 18 of 39 chairmanships to Democrats. Though most of the most powerful positions — Appropriations, Finance, Education — went to Republicans, Democrats did snag the chairs for Transportation, Judiciary B, Corrections, Economic Development, Public Properties and Veterans Affairs.

“It’s bipartisan, inclusive and represents all areas of the state,” Reeves said after naming his committee memberships. “I am ready to get to work and I have full confidence that there will be a cooperative spirit among these leaders to serve the citizens of Mississippi well.”
