…If the state is dropped, the consequences are dire. That’s the opinion of Pasagoula city attorney Eddie Williams.
“It would be incredibly devastating because all of us here suffered flood damage during the storm,” Williams said. “Ninety-five percent of the city was underwater during Katrina. All of us are now required to carry flood insurance on our properties.” …
…Here’s the major challenge that’s going to have to be overcome, the hunting and fishing lobby is big, powerful, and well funded. Coast lawmakers said that’s going to a tough adversary to beat in the state legislature.
“Hopefully, with FEMA’s strong encouragement as you’ve seen from the letter that was sent to attorney general Hood, that would be sufficient to persuade them. That we need to take action and we need to take it now. To bring these folks into compliance with the flood plain ordinances throughout the state,” Williams explained.
