SOUTHAVEN — With heads bowed and lips quivering, more than 350 people from all walks of life meditated on the global issues facing the nation, world and local community Wednesday at the DeSoto Civic Center.
“We are humbled by this wonderful turnout,” the Rev. Robert (Chip) Hatcher said to the assembled crowd at the 13th Annual DeSoto County Community Prayer Breakfast. “For almost half a generation, our prayer breakfast board has been gathering to help plan this event. My heart just overflows with gratitude.”
Hatcher, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Hernando and the Rev. Chester Berryhill, now a Memphis pastor, organized the prayer breakfast in 1999 as a way to unite the races and different denominations in DeSoto County.
Wayne Spell with Entergy and the chairman of this year’s prayer breakfast board, said the crowd was among the largest in the history of the event.
