YP has learned that Jay Mathis (R) has pulled to a 42-42 polling dead heat with 8 term incumbent and top Billy McCoy lieutenant Bennett Malone (D). The poll had 16% undecided. However, with Malone being an 8 term incumbent, it’s hard to believe that there are a ton of undecided voters relative to him. Rumors had circled earlier in the week that it was Mathis +20, but the campaign only confirmed the existence of a poll and that they considered the race a dead heat.
Many will remember that Malone was one of the last minute defectors against Jeff Smith (now R) that put Billy McCoy over the top in 2007.
This is a major upset in the making and probably a bellweather race to determine whether or not Republicans can gain control of the Mississisippi House.
