Absentee voting rise drawing scrutiny

After witnessing a rise in absentee voting in Mississippi over the past three elections, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said his office is investigating the matter.

In the 2008 presidential election, absentee voting made up 2 percent of votes. In the 2010 congressional election, that number increased to 4 percent.

In this year’s primary, the number rose to 6 percent. In 20 of the state’s 82 counties, absentee voting made up 10 percent or more of total votes cast.
