Four years after deposing the long-serving leader of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, incumbent Beasley Denson is facing some feisty challengers of his own.
In 2007, Denson, at age 57, quit his job as a car salesman to unseat Phillip Martin, who had been the Choctaw’s powerful miko, or chief, for nearly three decades.
Now, with the June 14 election looming, one of several announced or potential challengers could make Denson’s historic reign a short one.
