Gov. Barbour: No Decision on Presidential Run Until Spring

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour is often mentioned as a potential Republican presidential candidate. On Friday, he did not make his intentions clear, but he certainly did not rule out a run.

“I’m not going to make any decision about that until the spring,” said Mr. Barbour, who was attending a retreat of House Republicans. “I’ve got a budget to do, a legislative session, and I’m going to get through my day job before I think about looking for the next job.”

Mr. Barbour appeals to many Republicans because he’s a successful, folksy governor. He was praised for his handling of Hurricane Katrina in 1995, in contrast to the struggles of other state and federal officials.
