Need for chaplain stirs first debate
So it’s going to be like this, huh? The Mississippi Legislature had only been in session for a day before it got into its first controversy. And over, of all things, whether the Senate should have its first official chaplain.
Was Wednesday’s debate a taste of what’s to come over the next three months?
The controversy began when Senate leaders recommended the 52-member body have its own chaplain, apparently to minister to the members.
The House and Senate have traditionally brought in different ministers to open the daily sessions with prayer. Ministers from around the state are invited.
