Miss. leaders applaud judge’s ruling against health law
State leaders are hailing a federal judge’s ruling against provisions of the health care law, calling the decision a victory for state sovereignty and limited federal powers.
Gov. Haley Barbour, Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant and Sen. Roger Wicker, all Republicans, issued statements applauding Monday’s ruling in Virginia, the first from a federal bench to strike down the law. Federal judges in two other challenges, based in Virginia and Michigan, recently have upheld the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson’s ruling against the health care law paves the way for the U.S. Supreme Court to have final say in the legality of the act.
