SH – Absentee voting is unusually high for election

Absentee voting is unusually high for election

South Mississippi circuit clerks report heavy absentee voting in advance of Tuesday’s elections, usually a sign election-day turnout also will be high. The turnout is likely driven by a hot congressional race drawing attention and spending from Washington.

“We’ve had about 1,500 absentees so far, and normally we’d probably only have half that,” Harrison County Deputy Circuit Clerk Connie Ladner said. “I think we’re going to have a big turnout.”

Jackson County Circuit Clerk Joe Martin said, “We’re running out of ballots and having to print more. We have well over 600 absentees so far as of (Tuesday). That’s really heavy. Very brisk.”
