Childers Gains More Momentum With Latest Finance Report
Childers’ significant cash-on-hand advantage, recent endorsements pose devastating blows to challenger
Booneville, MS– Travis Childers continues to gain momentum for his reelection campaign as Congressman of Mississippi’s First District, reporting yet another strong fundraising quarter. Travis has raised more than $275,000 this quarter, bringing his war chest total to more than $900,000 and his total amount raised this cycle to more than $1.3 million.
While State Senator Alan Nunnelee spent much of his available resources during his primary campaign in June, Travis has continued to stockpile cash leading up to the November general election. In today’s story on Travis’ Q2 fundraising numbers, Politico reported, “Nunnelee’s cash total was sapped by a tough three-way primary against former Fox News analyst Angela McGlowan and former Eupora Mayor Henry Ross. Nunnelee, who had just over $150,000 as of May 12, spent $500,000 during the nomination fight” [“Childers reports $277K in 2nd quarter,” Politico, 7/14/10].
Also contributing to Travis’ momentum are back-to-back endorsements from the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) for his work to protect North Mississippi values. He was recently honored in the district by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for his pro-business record.
Politicoreported in the same story, “…Childers has compiled a relatively conservative record in the House – voting against the health care and cap-and-trade bills – while locking up endorsements from the National Rifle Association and National Right to Life. Last week, the Chamber of Commerce honored Childers with its Spirit of Enterprise Award.”
In response to the NRA and NRLC endorsements, the Chamber of Commerce award, and the latest campaign finance report, Childers for Congress issued the following statement:
“Travis continues to receive strong political and financial support, because he is his own man, standing up as an independent voice for the people of North Mississippi. The recognition from the NRA, National Right to Life, and the Chamber of Commerce, along with the latest campaign finance reports, are four devastating blows to Alan Nunnelee’s campaign in as many weeks. Mr. Nunnelee has lost the support of these critical constituencies, and he is losing additional support every day for caving into his party ladership’s plans to privatize Social Security and raise the retirement age for senior citizens.”
Summary of Childers FEC Report (Q2, 2010 – filed July 15, 2010):
Raised in 2nd Quarter: $276,947.32
Total Raised in 2010 Cycle: $1,342,754.26
