McCoy: ‘We remain cautiously optimistic’
Q: Do you expect layoffs and/or furloughs to be necessary for state agencies and school districts to balance their budgets in fiscal year 2011 and beyond?
A: “I would certainly hope not. I don’t see it right now, but everything is evolving. I hope that through eliminating the unfilled positions nobody will lose their jobs.”
Q: Do you worry that layoffs and/or furloughs will jeopardize the delivery of vital public services?
A: “I don’t want to go there. We remain cautiously optimistic. We’re not going to be able to expand – and we shouldn’t – but we have to maintain our commitment to transportation, education and all those areas.”
