Sheriff McMillin resigns as Jackson police chief
Mayor Frank Melton said he has accepted a letter of resignation from Jackson Police Chief Malcolm McMillin today.
Melton initially said he had let McMillin go, but later clarified his statement. He has called a news conference for 2 p.m. at City Hall to announce McMillin’s replacement.
“I know who I will be appointing,” Melton said. “I am ready to go.”
Melton said he received the letter of resignation at 10:30 this morning. Melton’s announcement comes after days of speculation that McMillin had plans to resign.
