Booneville native McKinney sentenced

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 25, 2009

The Clarion-Ledger, 2/24/9

Booneville native Scott McKinney was sentenced to five years in a Florida prison earlier today for defrauding investors in his radio show “Southern Sports Tonight,” a Florida newspaper reported.

The Northwest Florida Daily News reported that McKinney was also put on probation for 50 years and ordered to pay restitution of $188,508. The report said that McKinney’s attorney had requested a suspended sentence that would allow him to make restitution but that Circuit Judge Thomas Reimington gave him the maximum allowable sentence under a plea deal.

A trio of investors in his show when it was based in Mississippi earlier this decade have alleged a similar scam and filed complaints with Attorney General Jim Hood’s office.

Hood’s policy is to not confirm or deny investigations.
