Almost all of Northeast Mississippi’s mayors will have a spot on the ballot in the upcoming municipal elections.
Mayors Ed Neelly of Tupelo and Richard Howorth of Oxford are the exceptions; they’ve announced that they will not be seeking another four-year term.
No one has qualified yet for the Oxford job, while in Tupelo, Republican businessman Jack Reed Jr. and Democratic City Council member Doyce Deas hope to succeed Neelly.
But elsewhere throughout the region, incumbents want more time in office. Among them are all of the other mayors in Lee County.
