Hinds supervisors, judge in face-off

Hinds Youth Court Judge William Skinner is seeking an injunction to stop the Board of Supervisors from taking control of the youth detention center.

The county gave the judge control over the facility’s operations almost a year ago when Skinner said he would save money and streamline operations between youth court and the detention center.

But some have questioned how the judge runs the facility, District 1 Supervisor Robert Graham said.

“It was not just a decision we made overnight,” Graham said. “There are substantial issues.”

It relates to administrative issues, he said. He would not elaborate, citing the pending legal proceedings.

None of the issues involves safety risks to the children at the detention center, Graham said.
