Disputed Entergy purchase untallied

It could take several months for Entergy Mississippi to determine if ratepayers are owed any money for purchases of fuel from a disputed contract in Louisiana.

Entergy officials said the company purchased “a small amount” of energy from the contract through a systemwide energy pool.

What’s not clear is whether that fuel purchase caused Entergy Mississippi customers to be overcharged.

“We don’t know if ratepayers were positively or negatively impacted,” Entergy Mississippi spokesman Joey Lee said.

Last week, attorneys for Entergy Corp. said in a letter to the Mississippi Public Service Commission that it sold power from its Louisiana subsidiary to the state as early as 2005 via the Entergy System Exchange.

The power originated from a fuel contract that in 2000 was the root of $72 million in refunds to Entergy customers in Louisiana.
