Jackson owed $10M in unpaid fines

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 12, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 11/12/8

Jackson has an estimated 100,000 unserved warrants in Municipal Court, and Police Chief Malcolm McMillin has told officers to start clearing the backlog.

“(The number) grows every day,” Court Administrator Jeanette Banks said. “As soon as one is served, we add another back because we issue warrants every day.”

A mound of unserved warrants represents millions in revenue uncollected by the city.

Most of the backlogged warrants are for misdemeanors such as unpaid fines for traffic violations, Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance.
