Mississippi’s senators aren’t speaking directly about what they want from a solution to the U.S. financial crisis.
But four men, who want to be in Washington to deal with the problems in 2009 – Rep. Travis Childers, Southaven Mayor Greg Davis, former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove and Erik Fleming – have specifics about the situation, which sent Wall Street into a tailspin Monday after the U.S. House said no to a bailout plan.
“It wasn’t an easy vote,” said Childers, D-Booneville, about voting against the failed proposal Monday. “But I still believe in fiscal responsibility … and this plan was as much as the total cost of the Iraq war – a staggering amount of money.”
Monday, the U.S. House voted 205-228 and killed a White House-promoted, congressionally revised plan to salvage the troubled American financial system.
“They forgot, we don’t have $700 billion,” Childers told the Daily Journal via telephone Tuesday.
