The state Department of Education soon will take steps to dissolve the Hazlehurst school district in an effort to resolve academic and financial concerns there.
State Superintendent Hank Bounds announced those plans today, while visiting the district.
Students will continue to attend the same schools. The state will do away with the school board and reevaluate other existing school employees.
The bottom line, Bounds said, is “we are going to do whatever we have to do to ensure that boys and girls get a high quality education. That is difficult work, but it’s impossible to work when you have adults who aren’t doing the right thing.
