Wicker hosts telephone town halls’ to answer questions

By: Magnolia Tribune - July 30, 2008

If you get an evening phone call from somebody claiming to be interim U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, don’t hang up – it could be him, really.

Wicker, appointed to the seat in late 2007, has hosted a series of telephone “town hall” meetings with Mississippi residents since April, Wicker’s Washington staffer Jordan Stoick said Tuesday.

Monday night was one of those meetings, which generally aren’t announced ahead of time in a specific part of the state. About 50,000 have their phones ring for them, although not everybody stays on the line.

It’s done by region, Stoick said, so constituents can talk about local issues and ask questions related to where they live.

“We’ve found that’s more relevant to the callers,” he said.
