The large number of broken homes in the city and its impact on crime was a recurring theme Thursday night at a town hall meeting in Jackson.
“If it’s a 15-year-old out at 2 a.m., you have to ask the dad, how come you don’t have you’re child under control?” Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance said. “It’s the cold hard truth. It may not be the popular thing do, but we as men have to take care of our children.”
About 75 people attended the meeting hosted by the Jackson police union at the state Department of Education Building.
Members of the community were asked to give their opinions on the causes of the crime problems in the city.
The panel for the event included Jackson Police Chief Malcolm McMillin, Vance, the Rev. Hosea Hines of the Concerned Clergy of Jackson and other current and former law enforcement officials.
