Mayor seeks new appointment to JPS board

By: Magnolia Tribune - December 13, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 12/13/7

Mayor Frank Melton wants to appoint Millsaps College professor Bill Brister to the Jackson Public Schools board.

But it’s unclear whether Melton can come up with enough City Council votes to approve the appointment. Brister would replace Jonathan Larkin, whose term expired March 1, 2006.

“I don’t know where the votes for him are going to come from, quite frankly,” said City Council President Leslie McLemore. “Personally I’m not convinced Jonathan Larkin should be replaced. He’s been, I think, a productive board member.”

Larkin did not want to comment.
