The U.S. Senate on Thursday created a bit of Mississippi history by confirming the first woman to a federal judgeship in the state.
Sharion Aycock, a state circuit judge, was confirmed by voice vote to fill an opening on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi.
Mississippi Republican Sens. Thad Cochran and Trent Lott recommended Aycock to President Bush in December.
