Officials: Tax increase still on table for cash-strapped Jackson

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 30, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 8/30/7

City of Jackson officials, already dealing with a money shortage this year, have not ruled out a tax increase for the upcoming budget year.

Mayor Frank Melton’s office sent out a news release late Wednesday stating a tax increase was one option for balancing the budget as a legal requirement in the event that has to happen.

City officials are trying to remedy a $3.4 million revenue deficit.
