Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Arthur Eaves today urged his Republican opponent, Gov. Haley Barbour, to call a special session so legislators can keep tuition from rising at the state?s colleges.
Tuition is going up an average of six percent at the eight schools.
A Barbour spokesperson said he hasn?t changed his mind about not calling one. Recently, Democratic state Reps. George Flaggs and Steve Holland asked him to call a special session to divert $25 million from the projected $225 million in the state?s rainy-day fund to cancel the tuition increases.
