Scott Colom’s campaign for U.S. Senate in Mississippi is getting a little help from his trial lawyer friends in Florida.

According to the New York Times, wealthy personal injury attorney and former Democrat state representative Steve Pajcic and his children are “spending at least $7 million for a blitz of ads in Florida, Kansas, Mississippi and South Carolina, a quartet of Senate seats in traditionally Republican territory.”

NYT reports that Pajcic is behind the freshly minted Super PAC New Deal for All that was formed in October and started to air ads this week in Kansas and South Carolina. The group is expanding its reach into Florida and Mississippi.

“Democrats have been way too timid and modest in their expectations in the past,” Mr. Pajcic, 80, told The New York Times. “There’s a real chance for something big happening with this election, and I’m kind of old. So why not see if you can if there’s anything you can do to help?”

He went on to tell NYT that “he named his super PAC New Deal for All because he wanted to see Democrats win as many as 56 Senate seats and usher in a historic movement ‘comparable to the changes we had with the New Deal.’”

“We were looking for places where we might make a difference with a little bit of money with some creative and informative ads,” Pajcic said.

Pajcic served six terms in the Florida House of Representatives in the 1970s and 1980s before running unsuccessfully for governor as the Democratic nominee in 1986. He was defeated by then-Tampa mayor Bob Martinez who became the first Republican governor in Florida since Reconstruction.

NYT reports that Pajcic raised money for Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns and “Obama — while president — even served as a groomsman in his daughter’s wedding in 2017 to one of Mr. Obama’s closest friends, Marvin Nicholson.”

Obama appeared in an ad for Colom earlier this week.

According to Open Secrets, Pajcic has a long history of donating to Democrat candidates, from Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock’s U.S. Senate campaigns to the Friends of Chuck Schumer PAC to the Biden Victory Fund. He has been a major Democrat donor in Florida as well.

Colom is running against incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and independent candidate Ty Pinkins in the November 3 General Election.
