WLBT – Tate Reeves prepares for primary runoff

Tate Reeves prepares for primary runoff

There’s a week left for Tate Reeves to drum up excitement and to encourage voters to turn out again.

“We think we can grow our vote and grow the number of people that go to the polls next Tuesday, but we can’t do it alone,” Reeves said to a group of supporters at a meet-and-greet Tuesday night…

…Reeves believes his platform and policy views are resonating with voters.

“The fact that my opponent is for ObamaCare expansion. The fact that my opponent wants to raise taxes and those are issues that are so different than the vast majority of Republican voters across Mississippi. It is really something that has energized our base. It’s energized people throughout Mississippi.”

NESHOBA DEMOCRAT – Editorial / For Governor

Speaking of education, Mississippi has spent $400 million more on education since Tate Reeves was elected Lieutenant Governor. And every teacher is making at least $8,000 more than they did in 2011.

But ole Tater is anti-education, right?

We’ve seen these same liberal tactics used on President Trump. Say anything and hope it sticks. Trump, who has endorsed Reeves, calls that “fake news.”

Reeves ran as a fiscal conservative 16 years ago and has governed as a fiscal conservative every, single day since. He’s cut taxes, prioritized spending and said “no” to special interests.

Reeves has a proven track record. Mississippi is moving forward with low unemployment and new job opportunities, record graduation and lower dropout rates.

MAGEE NEWS – Lynn Fitch just won’t debate Andy Taggart

Treasurer Lynn Fitch has ignored three new invitations to debate Andy Taggart. The invitations came from both Andy’s campaign and media outlets.
On August 7, the day after the first primary in their race for Attorney General, Andy sent a letter to Ms. Fitch inviting her to participate in a series of three live debates during the three weeks of the runoff election at any times that would be agreeable to her.
Andy wrote, “As candidates for Attorney General, I believe we have a particular responsibility to allow the voters of our state to compare our skills and experience as advocates — and our position as public servants — in person and head to head.”
Ms. Fitch has not responded to Andy’s letter.

So he’s saying there’s a chance?

CLARION LEDGER – Sid Salter: Wayne Weidie cast a long, meaningful shadow over Mississippi’s modern political evolution

Sid SalterOne of the state’s best known and most influential political journalists of the 1970s and 1980s died last week after a courageous battle with cancer. I will sorely miss him.

Wayne Weidie died Aug. 15 at his home in Venice, FL. He was 78. He was one of the great friends and professional associates of my life – a man with whom I shared a lot of laughter and front-row seats to some of the most intriguing political dramas in Mississippi’s last half-century…

…Wayne was successful in political journalism, successful later in life as chief of staff for former 4th District U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor on Capitol Hill and later as a governmental affairs consultant before his retirement. In his last years, he returned to journalism in a new way —  as author of The Weidie Report political blog.
