Sen. Roger Wicker, Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith and Rep. Steven Palazzo welcomed an announcement from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration that the agency will continue rocket testing at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Hancock County.
The Green Run rocket testing will test the first Space Launch System core stage to ensure safety and performance, according to the announcement from NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine.
“This is terrific news for Mississippi’s role in the Space Launch System program. We’ve long advocated Stennis as the best location for the next stage of engine propulsion testing, and it’s great that the leadership at NASA now agrees. The decision continues the tradition of the saying that if you want to go to space, you’ve got to first go through Mississippi,” Hyde-Smith said.
Currently under development, SLS will be the world’s most powerful rocket when completed and is the linchpin the NASA Artemis deep space exploration program. The Artemis program will bring American astronauts back to the Moon by 2024.

WDAM – Gov. Bryant appoints Christopher Freeze as Executive Director of Mississippi Department of Human Services
Gov. Phil Bryant appointed former Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Christopher Freeze as Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services. Freeze will replace John Davis, who is retiring.
“I am confident Christopher Freeze will do a great job leading MDHS,” Gov. Phil Bryant said. “His intellect and leadership experience as a Special Agent in Charge at the FBI makes him an excellent fit to guide the agency during this period of transition. I am grateful he has accepted this appointment.”
As executive director, Freeze will oversee the agency responsible for providing a wide range of public assistance programs, social services, and support for children, low-income individuals and families.

WDAM – Republican forum held in Laurel
The Jones County Republican Executive Committee and the Jones County Republican Women partnered together Thursday afternoon for a summer social with Republican candidates.
“It just gives everybody a chance to come out and get to know our representatives,” said Michelle Anderson Jones, vice president of the Jones County Republican Women. “It gives you a chance to voice your concerns and your opinions and get to know them. And help people know what candidate stands for what they believe in.”
More than a dozen local and state candidates running for governor, attorney general, Jones County Sheriff and others were at the meet and greet, talking with community members and answering their questions.
